A Proactive Approach To Better Dental Health

Most dental problems, such as cavities, toothaches, and gum disease, can be avoided when the proper preventive dental measures are taken. Our team provides a broad variety of preventive treatments to keep your smile strong and healthy for the long haul.

Professional Check-Ups And Cleanings

Brushing and flossing at home is important, but it’s equally important to see us at least twice each year for a professional dental exam and cleaning. It’s your chance to ask questions about your oral health and learn tips for improving it. It’s our chance to spot growing dental problems at their earliest stages and treat them before they become more extensive. During your checkups, we can determine which dental issues pose the greatest risk for you and work together to create a strategy for prevention.

Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride is a mineral that protects the outer surface of each tooth against cavities, acids and sensitivity.  Professional-strength fluoride is often applied to children’s teeth as they develop, but fluoride can provide significant benefits to adults as well — especially if you have older fillings, receding gums, or sensitive teeth.

Sealants

The pits and grooves on the biting surfaces of the back teeth can be coated with a thin layer of sealant material to prevent cavities. We will typically recommend sealants for children who have gotten their first ‘grown up’ molars—around the ages of 6 and 12. The procedure is simple, painless, and noninvasive.

VELscope® Oral Cancer Screening

Oral cancer can affect anyone at any age, impacting the tongue, cheeks, throat, lips, and palate. However, the American Cancer Society tells us, with early detection, most oral cancer cases can be treated successfully. Unfortunately, early stage cancer is often undetectable with the naked eye. To protect your health, Dr. Whitney trusts the advanced imaging technology of the VELscope® to better visualize potentially harmful changes in the tissues of the mouth.
